1. Meghan Markle
That's right, the Suits actress turned British royalty's real name isn't just Meghan Markle. In reality, her first name is Rachel, and Meghan is her middle name: Rachel Meghan Markle. We're not sure why the name was changed, maybe because the double M situation gives the name a catchy twist. But before you start thinking that Harry shouts "Rach!" around their California home when he needs her, he actually recently set the record straight with James Corden saying that he calls her 'Meg' and she calls him 'Haz'. Guess the name-changing thing runs deep.
2. Emma Stone
The beloved ginger-haired actress Emma Stone's real name is actually Emily Stone, but when she first made her way onto the acting scene she was unable to use it. Another actress had already registered as Emily Stone. Originally, she then went for an entirely different name of 'Riley Stone' but she said it was too hard to recognize that it was her being called onset (pretty funny and embarrassing), so instead settled on the close to the original; Emma. We couldn't imagine her any other way.
3. Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway recently declared on Jimmy Fallon's talk show that her name is not actually Anne. Well, technically her name is Anne on her birth certificate, but apparently, nobody in her life calls her this. She set the record straight saying that her name is Annie, and that it's what everyone in her life calls her. The only time someone calls her Anne is her mum, and that's only when she's in serious trouble. We think Annie suits her better anyway. Funnily enough though, it never seemed to bother Anne that she shared a name with Shakespeare's wife...
4. Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars has a name as jazzy and funky as his music, but you may be surprised to know it's not his birth name. In actuality Bruno was born Peter Gene Hernandez, which obviously is not as superstar as his stage name. His father started calling him Bruno in homage to the boxer Bruno Sammartino, so that explains the first name. Mars came about because apparently a lot of girls told Bruno he was 'out of this world,' so Mars just seemed to fit. We'll be honest, after knowing this explanation we love this guy more now - if that was even possible.
5. Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys chose her name specifically because of her love for piano playing. Her birth name is Alicia Augello Cooke, but that seemed too long in her opinion. She wanted to find a short catchy name, and originally thought she would call herself Alicia Wild but apparently, her mum vetoed this suggestion (we agree with mom). She then came up with Keys representing piano keys which just made sense. Pretty cool once you know.
6. John Legend
The last name on our list is the unstoppable John Legend. We'll be honest, we had no idea that this wasn't his real name but once you start thinking about it, you feel a bit dumb for not figuring it out earlier. After all, Legend is surely too cool of a last name to actually be born with. John Roger Stephens is the birth name of John Legend, but he said that after some friends started to call him Legend as a joke, it just stuck. Well, first the name, then he actually achieved the legend status. Seems like it worked out pretty well in the end.
